National Poppy Day is celebrated across the globe. The American Legion family brought National Poppy Day to the United States by requestimg Congress to designate the Friday before Memorial Day, as National Poppy Day.

This meaningful occasion invites Americans to wear a red poppy, symbolizing their respect for the fallen and ongoing support for living veterans who have served our nation. The red poppy has been a recognized emblem of sacrifice since World War I, representing the honor of those who dedicated their lives in service to the country during all conflicts.

On this day, the American Legion Auxiliary leads efforts to distribute poppies, ensuring that the sacrifices made by veterans remain in the hearts and minds of all Americans, reminding them of the freedoms protected by these brave men and women.
